Potbelly Pigs, Portugal, pills, poverty and prison

POTBELLY PIGS:This is really just a terrible ploy to draw attention to my amazing Potbelly Pigs: Edgar & Esmeralda! Actually I just wanted to point out that they have saved me from certain doom and gloom over the last year! If it were not for having them it would have been much more difficult to get up for “addiction Tuesdays” at the same time as I was adjusting to “empty nest/nesting”!?!?

Portugal & Pills:

Seriously though, in 2001 Portugal decriminalized drugs…… Crazy right!?!? I’m sure many people thought this would create mass chaos! Well quite the opposite:

Which brings me to:Poverty & Prison:

I thought this article was brilliant! Then I started discussing it with my children who have certainly witnessed how lower socio economic status = prison after watching their brother be sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison yesterday! The states attorney and judge rambled off a list of unpaid fines and financially motivated non violent crimes claiming this was proof that he didn’t deserve to have probation reinstated over a technical violation. At any rate, my kids thought some may find the article offensive. I think they took the article to mean that they were discrediting the clear role that race places in the criminal justice system. However, in my mind it stated what I knew all along, that many people living in poverty are more likely to have trouble with the criminal justice system than those who don’t. Additionally, this still draws a clear connection to minorities because they are more likely to live in poverty due to barriers that are clearly racially motivated.

The Piggy Parent Chronicles: Xmas

OMG!! No one told me that you can’t mix pet pigs with a Xmas tree. I know it stands to reason but with EVERYTHING else on my mind it hadn’t dawned on me just how difficult it was going to be!

They look so sweet……but….

I finally get up the energy to put up my tree today (yes I know it is only a week till Xmas) and I realize that if you have 8 ‘ ceilings and a 6.5’ tree you can only lift the tree off the floor 1.5’…..well you see that wouldn’t work!

Edgar & Esmeralda: The Piggy Parent Chronicles

A year ago we brought home a Vietnamese Potbelly Pig: Edgar aka The Super Bestest Pig Ever! It’s been a learning curve ever since! Just like bringing a baby home you have to have your house baby pig proof and they are as smart as can be so they pretty much potty train themselves but they are much happier piggies if they have a schedule! They strongly dislike change and they will let you know in their own little way!

Edgar is now a year old! My Vietnamese potbelly was acting out, being aggressive, sleeping more and not playing “crazy pig” (running around the house or yard either from me or after me at a remarkable speed for a pet that weighs in at 150 lbs and is only 18″ tall) so like any good piggy parent I consulted the FB piggy group and they felt it sounded most like he needed a companion!

So 3 1/2 weeks ago we brought home a female Juliana pig and named her Esmeralda!! Like everything these days I researched all about pet pigs and even researched having more than one pig but it never occurred to me to check the difference in breeds or gender!! Esmeralda’s personality is completely opposite of Edgar’s!! He is a no fuss, no muss type of Piggy!! Esmeralda on the other hand she is sweet and sassy!!

5/31/18: UNEMPLOYED 3+ WEEKS

Okay I was super torn between two posts or two things to blog about and then I realized I don’t have to choose I can write about, both how about that LOL a week ago Friday I went and filled out paperwork for a job that I interviewed for Last Friday. I don’t know that I’m thrilled to death about the job not because of the job but just because still depressed enough not to be participating in life daily. I’m not super excited about working for a company doing home health when I should be working on opening my own. Actually I should be doing both. Now that it is occurring to me how perfect this job is. It is super flexible and I can work as many or as few days/hours that I need to. That seems like a great fit for someone working on starting their own business. Boy I tell you, I just can’t come up with any excuses not to want the job nor can I keep putting off working on my own business!!

So for the fun part!! I have had every intention on posting about the latest love of my life: my potbelly pig Edgar!! He is so freaking cute and if pigs weren’t such high maintenance pets I would recommend them to everyone. No matter what he cheers me up! He puts a smile on my face and makes it impossible to just lay around and feel sorry for myself. I’m like an obsessed new parent. So many pictures and videos and special toys and special treats!! Not to mention belonging to the North American Pet Pig Association! ( NAPPA )

This is Edgar’s “Piggy City”along with a picture and video of Edgar and his best cat buddy Jerry

Edgar: The Super Bestest Pig Ever

My husband brought to work the bestest gift I have ever received!! Not many people know this about me but when I was 8 years old the first chapter book I ever read was: Charlotte’s Web and from that point on I’ve collected pigs of all kinds……but no real pigs…until now!
